Behavioral Science Consultant - Freelance (Canadian & Non-Canadian Citizens)

We are seeking an experienced applied behavioral scientist to join our team as Behavior Science Consultant. This role presents the opportunity to apply your subject matter expertise in experimental psychology and behavioral science to pressing real-world challenges faced by our private and public sector clients.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will support our project teams on initiatives aligned with your experience and academic expertise. Our work is focused on applying behavioral science insights and research methods to positively enhance citizen and consumer behavior. Our projects take many forms, and you may be required to support on workshop creation, product and digital design challenges, creation of behavior change programs, and measurement and impact evaluation mandates. We work across many industries and sectors, including, but not limited to: healthcare, financial services, consumer-packaged goods, transportation, and energy. We believe in all projects having a net positive impact on business outcomes, society, and sustainability. In a given year we complete countless projects from North American, to Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are keen to find the right candidates who can support the growth of our global footprint. Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Project Strategy: Determining the best approach to address client needs within the scope of the engagement, determining the best evidence-based solutions and tactics to drive the outcomes of interest.

  • Research: Conducting literature reviews and distilling empirical insights into actionable solutions for clients, stakeholder interviews, structured in-field observations, survey creation and analysis, experiment design (online, in-field), and quantitative data analysis (preferred but not required).

  • Delivery: Presenting evidence-based strategies to senior stakeholders and diverse audiences, leading/facilitating workshops, presenting at conferences and other events as required. Travel may be required.

  • Business Development: Contributing to the creation and presentation of proposals (sole-source and RFP).

  • Thought- Leadership: Ability to write strong though leadership and research reports will be an asset. Please provide any links to prior articles, talks, and published papers.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., cognitive psychology, social psychology, neuroscience, marketing) – PhD is preferred but not required

  • 3+ years of experience in a client-facing role, preferably focused on the application of behavioral insights to real-world challenges

  • Advanced knowledge of quantitative research methods and ability to use data to tell a compelling story

  • A second language is an asset, including French, Spanish, Japanese, German, and Arabic

  • Strong communication skills and extensive experience presenting to executive leadership teams

We are seeking qualified Applied Behavioral Scientists who have experience in these active domains of focus. You do not have to have prior experience in these domains, but it would be considered an asset if you have worked in one or more of these areas of focus.

  • Organizational Psychology: Understanding and influencing positive workplace outcomes, from enhancements to productivity, conflict resolution, change management.

  • Sustainability: Have experience leading projects designed to encourage sustainable behavior change within organizations or amongst consumers. This could include projects focused on reducing food and water waste, to increase public transit use.

  • Building & Supporting Behavioral Units: Experience working with governments and organizations to help establish and enhance unit outcomes.

  • Consumer Behavior: Experience supporting brands to enhance their market positioning, offers, and sales experience strategies in physical or digital environments.

  • Financial Decision-making: Experience working with financial institutions to improve customer savings and investment behavior.

  • Human & Technology interaction: Uncovering how to develop technologies with people in mind, from informing algorithm development to the user experience of new AI and robotics.
